The Benefits of Practising Tabata

Are you motivated by seeing gains and shedding unwanted weight? If so, Tabata exercise is a must-have to include in your workout sessions. If you want to know why this results-heavy exercise is part of the Irina K Fitness programmes, keep reading!

What Is Tabata?

A Tabata workout is similar to HIIT workouts as it involves intense interval training followed by timed rest periods. Including different exercises focusing on each part of the body, the workout includes eight rounds of 20-second activity followed by 10-second rest. You then repeat the process as many times as you wish. As with all workouts, you must include a warm-up and cool-down to reduce the risk of injury.

Tabata was first developed in 1996 by Dr. Izumi Tabata. His work was conducted for the National Institute of Health and Nutrition in Japan and has since gained global notoriety. The main difference from HIIT is that the exercises on offer are more precise, with specific movements integrated to get the best results.

Tabata Benefits

  • This form of training strengthens the heart, improving the rate at which blood is pumped around the body.
  • As the exercises are intense, they do take up less time than other workouts. This means you can carry out a full body session in any spare time you may have throughout the day.
  • Tabata is also a great fat burner so commonly used for weight loss purposes.
  • It also offers flexibility as any of the approved Tabata exercises can be integrated depending on your goals and/or current body condition.
  • The strenuous exercises also improve strength and agility.

Are Tabata Workouts Effective?

Tabata workouts are extremely effective at achieving results. As you can see from the above-listed benefits, just a few workouts a week will see you benefit not just from fat burning and muscle building but also other health factors which make daily life easier.

The main reason is that Tabata and other forms of interval training improve the VO2 Max and anaerobic threshold. Periods of shorter, more intense activity require the heart to become stronger over a continued period. Raising the heart rate and lowering it again is important for ensuring your whole body benefits from your exercise sessions.

One of the main reasons that I recommend Tabata is that anyone can do it. No matter how busy your life is, by just taking 30 minutes out of your day, you can still achieve your fitness goals and the body of your dreams.

Tabata Workout for Beginners

If you are new to working out, you will be pleased to know that Tabata is not as scary as it may sound! More often than not, people think that interval training requires you to be super fit.

While that does help, the benefit of Tabata is that you can do the exercises at your own pace. Everyone has to start somewhere, and over time, you will realise that the intervals which once left you breathless are the ones you enjoy the most!
